Frequently Asked Questions

How long does an executive search take?
A thorough retained executive search process typically takes 90–120 days. This timeline ensures we find a candidate with the perfect cultural and behavioral alignment.

No. Executive search for small business is often more critical because every hire represents a larger percentage of your total leadership strength.

Yes, and it’s the part of hiring most companies leave to instinct. VisionSpark assesses cultural fit using the Right Fit Profiler™, which evaluates how a candidate naturally thinks, communicates, and leads, along with their capacity for LMA, which stands for Lead, Manage, and hold people Accountable. That behavioral data is paired with structured interviews, so the fit decision is based on evidence rather than a hiring manager’s gut feel after a one-hour conversation.

Not every company is at the point where a full-time executive makes sense, and that is worth working out before a search begins. VisionSpark helps you determine whether you are ready for a full-time leader or whether a fractional or interim leader fits your current stage better. If a full-time leader is the right next step, VisionSpark leads the search and placement process. VisionSpark does not currently place fractional or interim executives.
VisionSpark works on a flat fee rather than charging a percentage of the executive’s first-year compensation. Clients pay 30% at the start of the search, and the remaining balance is divided into monthly payments across the following three to four months. This keeps the investment predictable from the outset, no matter what compensation package the leader you hire ends up with. The fee itself varies with the scope and type of search, so VisionSpark provides a specific figure based on your hiring needs.
VisionSpark backs its placements with the Hire with Confidence™ Guarantee, which covers both placement and retainment. The intent is to give clients protection on a leadership hire, not just a candidate recommendation. Specific terms are confirmed as part of the engagement.
Look for three things. First, whether the firm defines the role before it starts recruiting. A search that begins with a job description someone already had on file tends to produce a resume match rather than a fit. Second, whether the firm assesses behavior and culture with a repeatable method, or relies on the recruiter’s judgment. Third, whether the firm stays involved through onboarding, since the first 90 days determine whether a strong hire actually succeeds.
A recruiter typically presents candidates against a job description you provide, and is often paid only when someone is hired. That pay structure rewards speed over fit. Executive search starts earlier, by defining what the role actually needs to accomplish, and evaluates finalists on behavior and cultural alignment as well as experience. The output is a hiring decision backed by data, not a stack of resumes.
